College Lecture Bingo: Syllabus Week Edition

Trust me, I’ve been through this eight times.

  • person with no writing implement, notebook, backpack, or any other school supplies
  • ridiculously overdressed female student (it should be noted that I’m this student at the beginning of every semester. I always start out telling myself I’m gonna dress up and look nice every day, and I usually make it maybe a week before I revert back to leggings and t-shirts)
  • several students wearing pajamas, as if they just rolled out of bed
  • several sleeping students (it’s a popular myth that students sitting in the back rows will sleep in class, but in my experience it’s usually kids seated in the middle rows of the auditorium who start snoring halfway through lecture)
  • inexplicably older student (this, I’m told, is not as common in smaller private universities, but at my school there’s almost always a senior citizen in a larger lecture. Why they decide to take classes with us grubby young’uns I’ll never know)
  • overly eager teaching assistant
  • person who hasn’t yet figured out how to turn the ringer off on their phone (they almost always have the default iPhone ringtone. I hate you, Marimba.)
  • student who asks an incredibly specific question about the syllabus
  • “Can we have class outside?”
  • “Are exams cumulative?”
  • “Do you take attendance?”
  • “Do we need to buy the book?”
  • “Will the lecture slides be online?”
  • professor who attempts to connect with students by putting outdated memes into their powerpoint slideshow
  • freshman who arrives ten minutes late as a result of not being able to find the classroom
  • senior who arrives ten minutes late as a result of not caring enough to be on time
  • FREE SPACE: technical difficulties (anything that delays actual learning by several minutes. Usually the result of an older professor who doesn’t understand how to use the projector/computer/microphone etc.)

Feel free to transfer these onto five-by-five grids and play College Lecture Bingo: Syllabus Week Edition with your friends! It’s fun, and educational!
